Unless your parents are really into the movie making, you could always get a more expensive camera with the ability to take video. I have a Sony Cybershot that takes pics and video and I'm tellin' ya, the video ain't too bad--plus, I only have to carry one device around. I am kinda leaning towards the Canon EOS 40D. But I need to get my TV paid off first. For as external hard drives go, it all depends on the amount of storage you want.
