Hai,

I can give some insight and say that I've received emails regarding lolcatbible.com that were from Christians and atheists. The atheists generally see it as blasphemous and a great thing because of that. Some see it as a tool to convert smaller kids.

The Christians on the other hand see it as a testament to the power of the Bible. They see this as a new transforming of the Bible into a new, hipper generation's language. They think it is a way of God reaching out to a new generation.

Then you have the Christians who feel it is blasphemous, wrong, and a work of Satan.

Overall, no two people really seem to have the same feelings regarding this project. I actually received two emails in the same day by two Christians: One said it underscored the power of the Bible and the other said it was a disappointment and insulting.

Everyone sees it as they want. I don't plan on injecting my own personal views into the project even if I am the site administrator.

Thanks for the blogging by the way!

In general I don't find the cat jokes very funny. In respect to religion on the Internet, many people assume that the intellectual is automatically with Science, thus, I think that you find widespread ridiculing of religion.

Yet again I could be wrong and this could be just forum "KIDS". as for this picture I feel that it's not very offensive, had it been something obscene or suggestive of themes against the religion, then maybe.

Being Sikh, I;ve found my religion isn't popular enough to be ridiculed.

Nice blog you've got here Neha

All valid points, Neha, and interesting to use as a different perspective.

In a strange way, I wonder if this attracts people to religion, if even for a fleeting moment. As you were able to pull out your favorite passage, I wonder if this project is a good use for others to do the same.

If you keep in touch with that site, I'd love to see a followup if there is any backlash from a religious group. I can see some Bible Loving Cat Owner opening up a link one day, coming across this, and rallying the troops. :)

Also, my compliments on the new layout. Looking good just in time for spring. Kudos.

Hey Scott,

Now I could see how it is offensive, but living in a Judeo-Christian culture which praises Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, I don't see this as much different.

Everything holy is now commercialized, satirized and the like. The moment I saw flip-flops with Hindu Lord Krishna on them, I knew this was an inevitable truth not worth getting hung up about. I do consider myself a religious person, but I also think that religion leaves itself open to commentary. Perhaps the Lolcat Bible is just one such thing.

I'm far from religious, but wouldn't some people find that pretty insulting? I mean, for example, if I was a writer of a great work, I'd be a bit peeved that people were translating it into some silly language.

I can see it being done for TV shows or some silly movie or maybe even a magazine re-written (National Enquirer would be hysterical), but the Bible? Yikes.
