Oh new Facebook, how I hate thee
When the Borg assimilated Jean-Luc Picard of the Starship Enterprise, there was the resounding phrase: “Resistance is futile.” I logged into Facebook last week to find that same methodology rang true–the site is change is here to stay.
Seeing the “go back to the old Facebook” link disappear was rough. When I look at the new Facebook page, I feel as if I see everything and nothing all at once. Some may argue that its more streamlined; I think it makes less sense to the eye. For example, birthdays are now part of the jumble in the right sidebar, whereas before they were clearly isolated. Coming from a religious happy birthday wisher, I can already tell that I will increasingly be missing wall and gift-giving opportunities.
Although I have never built a Facebook app, I could imagine that developers may be displeased about the changes as well. Essentially, their hard work gets moved from prime Facebook real estate [front and center on a profile page] to the smelly lot that no one wants [the last "box" tab]. This may be in line with
the filtering of garbage apps, which is appreciated, but it seems that one bad apple is ruining it for everyone.

Even my blog benefits from an app called “Simpilaris Blogcast” which was right under my About Me section; now it’s in a tabbed location that most of my friends won’t bother to click on. Even with the ability to “Add customized app tabs,” I question how much anyone will be looking at what applications I have. Well, unless you are a crazy stalker that must know exactly what Disney princess I am [let me save you some time: I'm Belle].
As far as new features that are apparent, there is the little word box under your picture. I really don’t get the function of this of writable white space area. It isn’t so people know what you are doing as that is what the “Status” bar is meant for. It can’t be a place to write down a grocery list [who really wants to know that I am out of funfetti cupcake mix?] Am I supposed to say something cheesy like “Holla at yo play cousin?” Is this like the lame “Shout Out” box on Friendster? If so, yikes, Facebook–just step back gracefully so you don’t go down that dark and gloomy route of dead social networks.
Then there’s “The Feed.” I remember when this feature first came out. I was a little apprehensive but grew to appreciate it. Now, it’s almost like it’s text TMI. I understand that there is a “Feed Filter” which I have toyed around with, however, I still feel like Facebook now looks ultra spammy. Facebook was a site for made for college students by college students when it first started out. Now that it’s open to everyone, it’s close to resembling the cluster-frack known as Myspace.
I may sound upset, but most of all I am a little sad. Facebook used to be the first site I would log into every morning along with Twitter. Now: I usually forget to log in until late afternoon or evening. I can go on with my gripes, but it is all stuff that you all have noticed or read about already. I just wish I could click my mouse 3 times and say “there’s no place like old Facebook” and return back. Regrettably, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas [or clean social network territory] anymore.

I honestly don’t mind that much, but I guess that is because I rarely used Facebook in the first place. The only time I check it out is when I get an e-mail saying someone messaged me. But unlike EVERY whine about the new theme, you actually provided actual reasons, I mean, other than its assumed sexuality
I pretty much hate Facebook too but I never really liked it. Like Andrew I check my only when I get an e-mail from them.
I dunno, I’ve found that so few Facebook apps add anything of any real value. The core framework, to keep you stalking all of your friends, and they you, is to me the reason for Facebook at all. So given that angle, I think the redesign is a great improvement.
I agree with everything you said. New Facebook SUCKS!
I also hate the new design.I loved the fact they had the link so you could keep using the old look. Have seen a few Facebook groups trying to get the old version back but they have had no success it seems.
