Joining the free agent club

A week ago, I posted a blog on how "great talent no longer ensures job security." That phrase not only applies to my friends at Revision3, but now to myself as well.

I've heard time & again how your early 20s is the time to try different things, take a risk. For the last 5 years [including interning in college], I have always been in the world of writing & production. With my last job, I tried working at a PR/Interactive agency. I thought it would be refreshing; it definitely was, but that doesn't always mean its the right place for you. It was very different than anything that I have ever done and was challenging. I am happy that I learned all that I did, and maybe even realized where I belong a little more.

So, as of today, I am a free agent. As you know, I've been freelancing with Ziff Davis--something I hope to continue. I also plan on working on some side projects...and just taking some time to myself. Career-wise, this year has been crazy. Especially with a small following [thanks guys], I feel like I should let you know what's going on with me--so there you have it. You all have been there with me from the beginning; some from TechTv, others from CNET and I think most of you since I was at Revision3. I do promise that I will be doing something geeky, just not 100% sure yet!.

The upside: I get to be reunited with my lovely Blackberry Pearl. Sorry Apple fans, the iPhone was just not for me.

Hey Neha,

I'm sorry to hear about this latest change. I know it is scary at the time it happens, and believe me, I've been there! For what it's worth, you will grow from this in ways that you can't begin to imagine right now. We're pulling for you!

My question is how do handle the cost of medical insurance? I know without group benefits drug cost can be outstanding.

Hang in there, I'm sure it won't be long before you find a new gig. Good luck. *hugs*

Ah! That sucks. Good luck. I agree with the earlier comment about starting a podcast with Sarah Lane (maybe even Post).

You're a star in the making. Keep your chin up.

You guys are all amazing--I love you, seriously. It is hard, no doubt, but I will get through it! I'll keep you all posted as to what I am up to. I would love to work with Miss Sarah again :)

Sadly as the year comes to a close more and more people are becoming free agents. The good thing about being unemployed is that you cant get more unemployed. The added benefit of a free agent is you can work on different projects until the perfect one comes along.

Yeah I read about the revision3 incident.. I'm kind of suprised they canceled the shows that they did, and kept some of the shows that I thought weren't as good or popular.

A small following? lol yep and I have a feeling it's only going to grow as you get more famous! :)

yay, you returned to the light side w/ the blackberry! ;P

As always best of luck!!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments everyone. Seriously, I would be nowhere if it wasn't for the support from 'viewers like you' [ya PBS, I'm stealing your line!] I'll keep you posted on what's going on with me. I have some interviews coming up, and am going to be super picky & not settle. Making decisions in haste are evidently a no-no in careers! Anyway, thanks again :)
