Bye bye Blackberry, Hello iPhone
Friday, September 5, 2008 at 03:16PM This week, something monumental happened. A pig flied, hell froze over, and the meaning of life was discovered. All because I have officially become an owner of an iPhone.
If you've been following my blog, you know that I was part of the Blackberry smartphone camp. You also know that I also was pretty disgusted with the buzz surrounding iPhone [iPhonia=barf]. Even when my Pearl failed me, we still were buds for the most part. For my new job (which is based around social media) the new iPhone is required. Ultimately, I had to jump my beloved Blackberry's ship.
When I first had my Pearl, I had a data plan, but soon discontinued that as I felt like I was constantly plugged in. With the iPhone, being accessible is the main point. I've always been wary of this and admit that in my personal time I like having a life outside of technology. Perhaps I was burned by the Blackberry; it was pretty much all work and no play with a constant flow of emails. I've discovered that this is different with the iPhone. Sure, I knew there was a culture surrounding the gadgetphiles darling but I didn't know that with the iPhone comes a balance; there are work functions but there are also entertaining apps.
I am still trying to understand what apps are useful and which are garbage. So far, I like the social networking apps- Twitterific, Facebook, Myspace. I look forward to discovering more as I go along and generally figuring out how to work this glorified makeup sponge. As I am still learning, I would love to know any tips or tricks you iPhoners out there might have...so let me know :)
Don't call me a convert, but I am starting to get the hang of the iPhone. I somewhat get why people treat it like their most cherished child, I just hope I don't become one of them!

I am a first generation iPhone buyer and have come to love it (not as much as a cherished child) but do enjoy being able to access the world wide web at all times (most of the time). Here is a great link of tips from which I learned quite a bit... enjoy! http://www.ismashphone.com/2008/08/iphone-tricks.html
Welcome to the Dark Side, Neha... or is that the Light Side? How come no one ever says 'Welcome to the Light Side'? Maybe 'cuz it sounds totally lame? lol Who knows... Irregardless, like, you are totally one of us now. You can sit with us. But we only wear pink on Wednesdays. ;P
I definitely agree with Daniel's heads-up to iSmashPhone. Out of the 20 iPhone tricks, I probably knew only 10, max. And they're all helpful! In fact... I'm using one right now. Yes. Did you see that? Yes... clever little phone. ;)
To brooks, btw great last name, its "Jobs side"....so technically the dark side (only cuz of his turtle necks).
As for you Iphone convert i see nothing wrong with it for 2 reasons. A) Its part of your job not really a personal choice. B) For what hands on time i've gotten when it (all 5 minutes) it seemed like a good phone just something of an adjustment. I'm not sure how well all the apps are, especially since i only messed with texting, but I think you'll enjoy it. And if you start treating it like your child seek IMMEDIATE psychiatric help.
I recently went swimming and had my BB in my pocket. Needless to say, its gone. I considered for a few days getting the iPhone but was dissuaded by many people, most of whom were iPhone owners. Short battery life, no video abilities, no REAL keyboard, no "select" to copy and paste, crashes all the time, looses data constantly.. and on and on. I decided to hold out 2 more weeks for the BOLD.
