What has two thumbs and a job? This guy.
Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 08:24PM If you've been following my blog, you may have noticed that 2009 has been one heck of a year. Lots of traveling, life changes, and working hard at freelancing. I've been looking for a full time job for the past year and it has been difficult to say the least. I went on countless interviews, sent my resume to hundreds of places, and knew it would just take one right fit. I was admittedly very picky with where I wanted to work next as I learned a lot about the type of atmosphere in which I could be the most effective last year. I was pretty sure that no one would be hiring until the first quarter of 2010 so I was prepared to wait after the holidays to continue the search for the perfect company.
Determined to be the best Mr. Spock I can be.
To say the least, I am ecstatic that I've held out for the right opportunity. I went on two challenging interviews this month and was hoping to stand out from the rest of the competition [which was plenty]. It takes just one company to believe in you (and for you to believe in them), what the business folk call "synergy." I am glad to announce that I will be joining the team at Justin.TV on January 4, 2010 as their new Project Manager of Production. It is a long title with a simple purpose: to streamline the broadcast process and working on moving things down the pipe internally. The team at Justin.TV is unique; they have some of the most intellectual lunch conversations that I have ever heard! They seem like the type of people I would like to be friends with anyway, so coming into work will always feel comfortable. Like me, Justin.TV believes in new media, content producers, and live video. With this in mind, I will be working with a number of different groups within Justin.TV and some that are exterior all to develop more efficient production practices. The recently hired broadcast producer, Randall Bennet from Techvi, will be working closely with me to make it all happen. I am looking forward to working with Randall finally in the same office--we worked at CNET at the same time, same department, but different coasts previously. I still plan on producing Rad on the Web and V01d in addition to this job which is great since I love being busy.
I will have a lot to learn while on the job but I am looking forward to tackling it all. Justin.TV seems like the type of place where each employee is heard and makes a difference, a very encouraging prospect as a new hire. I've started some training and have observed Justin.TVers to be optimistic, smart, and lighthearted which makes it easy to understand why they are so selective with who joins their team. I am hoping to bring what I know to the table and gather what I can from my colleagues along with you, the user. Lastly, I want to thank the readers of my blog for being so supportive and sharing your stories through this rough employment patch. A number of you are still looking and I hope this post serves as a point of inspiration to not loose faith in finding the perfect job. I was not expecting this to happen before Christmas and am overjoyed that I quickly scanned Craigslist the day I applied. Kismet? I believe so.
I feel more grateful for getting this job than I ever could have in the past and am determined to do my best. On of my favorite quotes (that I have mentioned before) from Vanilla Sky is, "The sweet is never as sweet without the sour, and I know the sour," which sums up many feelings in life. As of this year, I definitely know the sour well, so this sweetness is all the better. Cheers to a new year and a new full time job!

Congratulations! Sounds like an excellent job and I wish you all the best. :D
Congratulations! And it's so well deserved! They don't yet know what kind of power they've brought to the team.
So... can we start calling you Ms. Manager?
Thank you so much for the kind wishes everyone! I really want to rock their socks off and make Justin.TV all the better. It will be awesome!

Wow, that's great! I noticed you have a Lunch.com account, which is what pulled me over here. Why not come back over there and add some material? We got a lot of comic book and Avatar geeks over there right now! Congrats on the new job. I used to be in Radio many years ago, now I work in the legal field.
Yipee!!!! Sounds like Justin.tv will be a great fit. Congrats Neha!!!!
