From India, with love
Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 12:34AM First off: Hello readers!! It's so weird for me to be blogging from a cybercafe in India, which is much different than my usual blogging digs [In a big comfy chair in PJs.]
I really appreciate the messages I have been getting from some of my social network buddies and everyone seems to have a common question: Hows India? I figured a blog detailing just that was in order.
In short, India has been slightly challenging for me, mostly due to health issues. Although I love visiting here, I fall sick far too often. I think it's the complete change of environment that just throws my body into a loop. I am glad to say that I am healthy(ish) right now, which is great!
So far, I've traveled mostly in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Both are interesting places with colorful people. It has been really wonderful spending time with my relatives and also taking part in all that goes into a traditional Indian wedding that is occurring later this month. I hope it all goes smoothly because we have put a lot of effort into it. It's kind of like My Big Fat Greek Wedding on steroids. Fancy that!
Other than that, I've been trying to sneak off to a cybercafe when I can to check email, Twitter and Facebook--the three things I deem absolutely necessary. It's funny how roughing it automatically prioritizes things as well as a lack of time plus resources.
Lastly, I do miss home. It's nice having a car, knowing your way around a place, and not sticking out like a sore thumb no matter where you go, how you speak or dress. Additionally, I miss weird little things like chocolate chip cookies, Mexican food, and hot showers on demand.
I will try to blog again when I can, but if not, I'll be back in full effect in the latter half of March. Thanks again for reaching out to me, the emails, tweets and messages. I miss you too and will fill my Flickr with pictures when I get back.
